United Way of Southern Nevada’s Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) will host its 5th Annual “Women’s Suit Drive” from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, November 2nd at the NV Energy parking lot at 6226 W. Sahara Ave. WLC is collecting new and gently-used suits and other business attire to assist women in need. The drive helps women prepare for career opportunities and gain confidence to succeed during an interview and in the workplace.
Donations will benefit United Way accredited agencies with back to work programs for women. The agencies include Goodwill Career Connections, HopeLink, S.A.F.E. House, Safe Nest, The Shade Tree, Women’s Development Center, and W.O.R.C. (Work Opportunities Readiness Center) of Help of Southern Nevada.
As I go through my closet, I realize there are dresses and suits that I haven’t put on in a while, don’t fit, or simply aren’t my style any longer. I do realize though, that these will benefit others. So many people are out of work. Clothing is expensive. I’m ready to give up a bunch of my clothes, and hope that I can make a difference. It only takes a few minutes or half hour to go through your closet. I hope you can help too! I attend so many events in our community and I hear stories every day. People are struggling. We can help them dress nice, appropriate, and feel good! They need all sizes, so even if you only have a couple items, it will help.
Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino will be hosting a public suit drive October 22 through November 1, providing an additional drop-off point location. Those who donate at the Miracle Mile Shops location will receive a Miracle Mile Shops coupon book with $2,000 in savings.
Last year’s drive collected more than 5,700 professional items including suits, dresses, shoes, handbags and jewelry. For more information about WLC and the suit drive, please visit uwsn.org.
