I have been living here for 8 years now. Almost. April will be 8 years. I watched Las Vegas boom, I have also watched it suffer. Something is in the air though… I feel a change. Not a complete change to what it used to be, but an excitement. More culture. Things are opening. Stores, restaurants with more character. More of a… “we have to open something that will bring them in and keep them coming back,” feel. Which is sorta fun. Downtown is looking up. The strip is thriving again. I see the people, I go to the shows… and I know there are more of them then a couple years ago.

City Center from Las Vegas Blvd. (Taken by Dayna Roselli)

This town is unique no matter how you slice it. I feel a change. I think our town has learned how to embrace the locals too. This is good. The new Vegas will aim to please both. That’s what I think we have learned, and I think it’s going to be bigger and better than ever before!

I also think social media is bringing together the tourist and locals. Locals, in a sense, are helping to promote our city more than ever. We can answer questions on twitter and facebook. We can offer our opinions and offer tips on Four Square. It’s really cool how it’s all coming together. I like it. Can’t wait to see what the rest of 2012 brings!

It’s been a busy week, but a lot of fun putting together these “Behind The Scenes” pieces that my co-anchor Dave McCann and I have been working on. We had the chance to interview some really talented and fun people that work on some of the best shows on the strip. The five we covered are: The Lion King, Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular, Carrot Top, Le Reve, and Frank Marino’s Divas Las Vegas. All very different in their own way!

One thing we discovered is the love and passion all these cast members and stars have for their job and their shows. Also, it’s amazing to see HOW much goes into each production. It’s a major event and most of them do it six nights a week. I give them a lot of credit. I am posting all the video clips to my blog if you’d like to see them. We do them in two parts. One at 5 a.m. and another at 6 a.m. Wednesday we go behind the scenes of Carrot Top’s dressing room and have some fun, Thursday we take you under ground to see how Le Reve’s major water production is put on each night, and Friday we watch longtime Vegas peformer Frank Marinos transform into Joan Rivers!
