What’s Happening. Then, Now, Soon.

Finally, a chill weekend. It’s been a busy few weeks in Viva Las Vegas. I am loving all the events and shows that have been popping up on the strip. I attended the opening of RockTellz and CockTails at Planet Hollywood.

This run features singer Meat Loaf. I like this concept a lot. He sang, he talked, and he answered questions. We were able to learn more about the artist behind the music. I think this type of show will have Vegas appeal. Die hard fans will love it. Others may be familiar with the artist, enjoy the show, and leave knowing more than when they entered the theater. Meat Loaf’s show runs until mid-November. I’m interested to see who they will feature next.

The ShowBiz Roast of legendary drag queen Frank Marino was held at the Stratosphere last weekend. This was the third roast to date. I think many people were looking forward to this one, because we knew it would be over the top!  It was, of course.

It opened with singer Skye Dee Miles stripping down to her lingerie with male back up dancers and singing “It’s Raining Men.” A few of our famous news and magazine columnists dressed in drag. The cast of Frank Marino’s Divas took the stage. The Jersey Boys stripped down to boxers. Siegfried made a surprise showing on stage and played along with a fake Montecore tiger (it was Brian Thomas all dressed up,) and hypnotist comedian Marc Savard moved it all along as the Roast Master. AND, that’s just a taste of what went on!

I really enjoyed Marc Savard as Roast Master. Marc is one of my favorite people to follow on twitter. I think he’s absolutely hilarious! It was nice to see him up there, using his humor! Frank was such a good sport. He’s also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. His one liners always amaze me. He’s so quick witted. Divas is a fabulously fun show that everyone must see.

Coming our way at the Cosmopolitan is the Social Club. I’m really excited about this.  It’s going to be a restaurant, bar, club, and show… all rolled into one.  I’m also glad to hear the hotel has signed Bruno Mars to a bunch of weekends in 2014. I like how the Cosmopolitan sticks to it’s NEW and NOW theme. It works for them. They stay really current.

I’m happy to be hosting a few things coming up soon. Taste of The Nation Las Vegas at the Palms on October 17th. 100% of ticket sales benefit Share Our Strength’s fight to end childhood hunger. I will be one of the emcee’s along with the Review Journal’s Doug Elfman. You can get 20 percent OFF your ticket if you use the code: DOUGDAYNALV – I hope to see you there!

I am also hosting the Fall Expose by UNLOKT to benefit After School All Stars on October 24th. It takes place downtown at Mingo’s Kitchen and Lounge. Food, fashion, and music. It should be a fun night out!

Thanks to everyone for your continued support, it was nice meeting some followers at the Three Square Food Bank event I hosted at Insert Coins, and at the KXNT Car Wash Wednesday. I love seeing your face and saying hello.

I’m tying up a few more things in my professional career, then… I will be settled in and ready to blog more often. Have a great week!

Divas Las Vegas Gets Ready to Celebrate 1,000!

Divas Las Vegas: with Frank Marino after the show

Superstar female impersonator Frank Marino and the brilliant cast of “Divas Las Vegas” will celebrate the 1,000th show of the dazzling drag spectacular at Imperial Palace Las Vegas on Saturday, July 21st.

In addition to commemorating this milestone performance, Marino can celebrate the fact that he’s the only entertainer with two stars on the Las Vegas Walk of Fame, has a street named in his honor, his own official day (Feb.1), a key to the city, a branded gambling betting wheel, his own building wrap on the famed Las Vegas Strip and has been named “Entertainer of the Century.”

Marino has performed in Las Vegas for more than 27 years, making him the longest-running headliner in Sin City. Further cementing his status as an international entertainment icon, he recently appeared on Bravo’s “The Millionaire Matchmaker” and E!’s “Fashion Police.”

“With 17 costume changes per show, I have had a total of 17,000 costume changes at Imperial Palace. I put the Strip in Las Vegas Strip!” Marino said.

Divas is one of my favorite shows. Why? Frank is hilarious. His costume changes are over the top! The impersonators not only resemble the Diva they portray, but they are fun to watch and even their hand motions and facial expressions are right on. Another great part of the show is the dancers. They aren’t mentioned enough. They are super talented and really add to each Diva performance. The show is straight up fun to watch! You can’t go wrong.

Frank Marino cares so much about this production. I went to the show last Thursday in fact. Frank stands outside after each show and sell merchandise to support charities and takes pictures with the audience. Many of the other performers do as well. As you head into the showroom, Larry Edwards (Tina Turner & Beyonce in the show) greets you at the door. Some of my favorite performances are Celine Dion, Liza, Tina Turner, and Britney Spears. The last number is spectacular as well. I won’t tell you about it, because I don’t want to ruin it. You won’t be disappointed, go see it!

Here are some pictures I took at the show recently:
